Palma de Mallorca, Spain
Trust me to go to an island as the first Spanish country to visit ! I'd been wanting to go to Palma for a while. I blame the British Airways app for having a very nice picture which kept calling to me saying "Come on book me". So just after the Easter Break I took my little sister out there and it was pretty amazing.
We landed in Palma at around 11pm. We managed to get a taxi to our hotel which is in Playa de Palma, about a 10 min drive from the airport. Funny story about the hotel, so the day before we were flying out, I realised that the hotel I had chosen in the package was about an hour away from Palma. That didn't go down well with me. Luckily I was able to cancel and then book at the Hotel Pamplona which turned out to be a better choice. Playa de Palma is a great place to stay because it's close to the airport and there are great connections to the main city centre.
In the morning after breakfast we took a stroll in the area to see what was around, if it was interesting etc. Nothing prepared me for the gorgeous sea views that I was met with, just a 5 min walk from the hotel. I was in love. Anyone who knows me well, knows that I love the sea (even though I can't swim....I'm working on that 😂)
After that we made our way to town. Transport links are actually really good from Playa de Palma to Palma (the main city centre.) From Playa de Palma you can get the 25 bus route. It will cost €1.50 per single trip. I suggest you take this bus instead of the 15, because it takes a lot longer. Like a lot longer. The moment we got to Palma, I was in love. I didn't doubt the beauty of this place, trust me if you go there, you won't be disappointed.
First stop, Catedral de Palma also known as La Seu. This is a definite must see. (€0)
From here, take a stroll and get lost in the city (€0)
Discover Banos Arabes (Arabic Bath Ruins -: €2.50)
These Arabic Baths date back to the 10th century and are identical to those that would have been found in Islamic Cities. Though there wasn't much to see, I still believe that it's a must see
Further stroll into the city centre
After spending a great day in town, we had lunch and then headed back to the hotel. After dinner, I dragged my sister to go and see the sunset. I did my first time lapse videos too...I think I need to invest in a tripod.
Day 2. We went on a City Tour because of a few reasons. Firstly, my sister was unable to keep up with my crazy walking and we wanted to see a few more sites which were a little out of way to get to by bus.
I believe it was about €12 (hopefully)
The first place we visited was Pueblo Espana (€6/7)
The best way to describe this was that it's a museum. The whole place is full of different parts of Spain at different parts in history and it's beautiful. At one point I felt like I was in Marrakech. We explored the different parts and I was left thoroughly in awe. Also managed to bag some amazing views of the city too
Second stop was Castillo de Bellever
Make sure to check out the opening times of this place before you go, otherwise you'll go when we did and it would be closed...
Overall I did enjoy being away with my sister. We didn't eat out much because we had a half board, the lunches we had weren't that great, but we did love the gelato :)
If you do go to Palma, make sure you go when it's a bit warmer. We went when it wasn't so warm and it wasn't great but the city was still beautiful.
Till next time x
