Dubrovnik is still Dubrovnik
I was very sceptical about visiting Dubrovnik. Its role in the award-winning series Game of Thrones has thrown it in the spotlight increasing tourism in the area. Cruise ships now have it as a stop in their itinerary and you can imagine the number of people that they carry. So all of this made me worry about the authenticity of the place. Would it feel like a tourist attraction or could I find some moments which would make me appreciate the place? I shouldn’t have been worried because Dubrovnik showed me Dubrovnik and not King’s Landing.
My highlight of our time in Dubrovnik was exploring the city walls. The fact that they open it up to the public and allow you to walk on them is pretty incredible. If you do have the chance, respect the area and the stones, don’t go vandalising.
We also had an opportunity to get on the cable car and head to the top of the mountain where we had a breathtaking view of the city below. There’s an amazing restaurant called Panorama which has some pretty incredible views.
If you are thinking about Dubrovnik, do it. You won’t regret it.
