Wisteria Hysteria
WisteriaHysteria,
noun...
The act of going crazy looking for the perfect Wisteria facade
When the purple flowers are spotted, every London based Instagram feed is filled with them (hence the hysteria). Last year I caught on late and by the time I joined in, it was too late. This year, I was so worried I was going to miss out, so once I spotted the first picture on my feed, I knew it was time to go out. Only I went out too early because the flowers had not fully bloomed yet. Despite the small blooms, I thoroughly enjoyed my adventure with the blue trainers. The way the houses are, made it difficult to get a shot with them, but maybe I’ll try again.
So where can you find wisteria in London you ask? Start in Kensington. There are some well-known streets such as Kynance Mews and Lanceston Place but taking a walk in this area will reveal a few more hidden gems.
From there walk over to High Street Kensington – if you are short of time, get on the bus (49 towards White City) or the London Underground (one stop). From there, head over to Gordon Place and prepare to be wowed. Be bewitched by the beautiful cottages that seem to be sharing one plant of wisteria. Then make your way to Campden Grove/ Hill and finish off at Vicarage Gardens where this wisteria façade will make you oo and ahh and then think “how I will capture this?”
Depending on where your explorations take you, you might be back on Kensington Church Street. As you are walking up the road, towards Nottinghill Gate Station, you’ll see the corner of Bedford Garden’s inviting you in. I know house number 4 is drop-dead gorgeous, but make sure to give the whole street a chance too.
Have you found some wisteria around you? Know of more places (don’t hold out on us), please share, we love sharing in this place!
Till next time
